Mui Ne beaches & Fishing village: What to expect
Posted on January 16, 2025
On this blog, I share a collection of honest reviews—free from embellishment or distraction. From heritage hotels to local cafés, every entry is filtered through my own lens and personal aesthetic. These are not universal guides, but a reflection of my individual taste and first-hand experiences. My goal is to help you make more considered choices by sharing a perspective that values substance and values the reality of the moment.

Hanna Beach
One thing I love about Da Lat is how it feels part Vietnamese mountain town, part European getaway, and that charm really shows up in its restaurants. Some places have that cozy, rustic European feel while still staying true to local ingredients and traditions. As part of my documentation of the local food scene, I also explored the plant-based side of Da Lat; the quality and creativity of the vegan dishes were genuinely impressive. Many restaurants offer fresh, creative veggie options that fit perfectly with the city’s relaxed, European-inspired atmosphere. It is a mix that makes eating here feel both comforting and unique.
Even though Da Lat’s street food scene is lively, colorful, and absolutely worth exploring, I did not include it here. I wanted this guide to focus on the restaurants where you can pause over a meal, soak in the atmosphere, and really taste the city’s unique cultural mix.
Ready for a taste of what’s coming? Here is a quick roundup of the restaurants featured in this article. Each one brought something unique to the table, and I am excited to share what makes them worth a visit.
- Chef’s Dalat: European cuisine ok
- Le Alpi: Italian cuisine (+ Italian owner) ok
- BOTEA Woodfire: Steak House ok
- Moon Dining: European cuisine (+ Lake view)
- Quán Cơm Quê Xưa: Vietnamese cuisine
- Ăn Chay Hông: Vegan cuisine (+ Very limited seats)
- Tiệm Nướng Xóm Lèo: Barbecue (+ Sunset view) ok

Chef’s Dalat

Surrounded by lush green plants, the exterior of Chef’s Dalat Restaurant immediately gives off a cozy, peaceful vibe that makes you feel welcomed before you even step inside. Once you enter, the elegant tables and carefully curated décor continue the experience, showing that attention to detail goes beyond just the food. I particularly loved that the tables were simply decorated with tiny flowers, adding a subtle touch of color to the crisp white napery and plates. The whole aesthetic perfectly sets the tone for a sophisticated yet relaxed dining experience. While I do not usually rank my recommendations based on personal preference alone, this is clearly my favorite restaurant in the city for a nice date and even if that date is just catching up with a close friend in a beautiful setting.
There is a true storyteller’s touch in every dish from Chef Kha, reflecting his unique style of combining creativity with precision. His approach blends local ingredients with international techniques, crafting plates that are both visually stunning and full of nuanced flavors. Each dish carries a signature touch: thoughtful layering of textures and playful presentation that makes it feel like a work of art. Every plate demonstrates care and skill, making the dining experience feel both personal and refined.
The restaurant’s commitment to quality is undeniable, especially with their own organic garden ensuring every herb and vegetable is bursting with flavor. Each season, Chef Kha creates a new menu, so every visit brings something fresh and exciting to discover. Combined with the warm service and the serene greenery, it is an experience that keeps me coming back, eager to see—and taste—what story Chef Kha will tell next.

2.
Le Alpi

Le Alpi – Da Lat restaurant is a charming Italian spot in the heart of Da Lat, and notably the only Italian restaurant in the city owned and run by an Italian. The owner personally welcomes and serves guests, creating a very authentic and personal experience. The place is quite small, which adds to its cozy and intimate atmosphere, but it also means you should book in advance as it fills up quickly. Another detail worth noting is that there is no pizza on the menu—this is a place focused on traditional Italian dishes rather than the usual crowd-pleasers. One of the highlights is how the owner comes to your table after you receive the menu and takes the time to explain the dishes.
Dining here really feels like being transported to Italy. As someone who loves Italian cuisine, discovering a place like this in Da Lat is a real pleasure. The owner is friendly, easy to talk to, and clearly passionate about his food. What stands out is his honesty, he gives genuine recommendations without trying to upsell. For example, when ordering a cheese and cold cut platter, he suggested a small portion for two people, and it turned out to be a perfect and satisfying appetizer.
For the mains, I tried two different pasta dishes: a carbonara and a truffle fondue served with homemade pasta. The pasta was excellent: fresh and well-prepared. While I personally prefer a creamier, French-style carbonara, his version stays true to Italian tradition, using guanciale (cured pork jowl) that he cures himself. The flavors were authentic and well-balanced, though I would not have minded a slightly more generous portion of guanciale. Overall, it is a great experience and a must-visit if you appreciate genuine Italian cooking.

3.
BOTEA Woodfire

As a meat lover, I do enjoy having a good steak from time to time, and while Da Lat does not have a wide selection of steakhouses, this place is one you can trust. They proudly promote themselves as serving the best steak in town, and honestly, they do not disappoint. One thing to note is that the menu shown on Google Maps does not seem to be up to date. The staff explained that they refresh their offerings every season, which keeps things interesting. If you are planning to try their Tomahawk steak, it is best to preorder at least three days in advance.
The quality of the meat is excellent, and it is cooked just right, which is always the most important part. The ambiance adds a lot to the experience as well. It has a comfortable, intimate feel with soft lighting and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a great spot for an enjoyable meal. There was, however, a small issue during my visit: I ordered a menu designed for two people, where the oyster was part of the appetizer, but only received one, so I had to order an extra one separately. Not a huge problem, but worth mentioning.
As for the wine selection, it is somewhat limited if you are ordering by the glass. There was only one option available, an Argentinian wine, which was served straight from the fridge. While it was decent, I personally tend to prefer French or Italian wines, so a bit more variety would have been appreciated. That said, I have read they also offer a premium camping BBQ service, which sounds like a unique and potentially amazing experience, definitely something I would be curious to try someday.

Moon Dining

Walking into Moto Laurie Café & Bistro feels a bit like stepping into a place you could happily spend the whole day. They truly have everything, from hearty breakfasts to comforting lunches and dinners, with cakes and cookies waiting whenever the craving hits. It is always lively, people coming and going, yet somehow it still feels warm and familiar, like a home you return to often. I guess that warmth comes from the people behind it—Laurie, originally from South Australia, and his wife, Khanh. You can feel their kindness and energy in the way the café runs, as if they’ve quietly built a place where everyone feels welcome.
What makes it even more special is that Moto Laurie is not just about food. They share travel tips, lifestyle notes, and their love for motorbikes, giving the café a personality that goes beyond its menu. It feels like a space where ideas float around as easily as the smell of fresh coffee, inviting you to stay a while. Whether you’re sipping a latte while reading, sharing a dessert with someone you love, or trying one of their surprisingly creative dishes, there’s a spark of curiosity in everything here.
Whenever I am in the mood for comfort food, I know exactly where I am going. Their eggs Benedict and smoked salmon bagel never disappoint. And to stay somewhat healthy, I always grab their green juice with guava, apple, orange, and kale. It’s the perfect “I am trying my best” kind of balance. And even though I usually stick to my favorites, they also have a very nice vegetarian and vegan menu and if you are curious to try something plant-based, I definitely recommend their veggie burgers.

Quán Cơm Quê Xưa

For travelers eager to taste authentic cuisine, Mộc Vị captures the essence of Northern Vietnam. The dishes are humble yet full-bodied, and each bite feels like sharing a meal at a family table, where warmth and heritage are always present. Made even more special with ingredients sourced directly from their own garden, every dish carries the familiar comfort of homemade food shared around a family table. If you are feeling adventurous, you can challenge yourself and try a dish with shrimp paste, a bold and unmistakably Vietnamese flavor.
In Vietnam, meals are meant to be shared. Dishes are placed in the center of the table, inviting everyone to help themselves rather than having a plate just for one. Even if you are only two people, it is best to order a few dishes to experience the full variety. This tradition encourages conversation, laughter, and a sense of togetherness, turning every meal into a shared celebration of food, family, and community.
You can choose to dine indoors, where it feels warm and homey, or outdoors on weekends from 6 PM, where the open barbecue, crackling fire, and live music create a lively, cozy atmosphere. Both spaces have their charm, offering two distinct moods in one place. So, which vibe will you choose for your evening?

6.
Guru Chay Restaurant & Coffee

Guru Chay offers a peaceful escape with its beautiful garden and fountain, making it a comfortable spot for brunch. The restaurant reimagines vegetarian dining as a modern, appealing experience with a large, diverse menu. Even for a carnivore like me, the dishes are anything but boring. Each plate looks like it could come straight from an Instagram post: bright, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged.
The name “Guru Vegetarian” combines wisdom and wellness. “Guru,” from Sanskrit, means a guide or mentor who inspires others toward a better life. “Vegetarian” reflects the purity and mindfulness of plant-based cuisine, nourishing both body and soul. Together, the name expresses the restaurant’s vision: to encourage a healthy lifestyle, create calm and balance in every meal, and let diners experience vegetarian food in the most mindful and satisfying way.
Pair your meal with a kombucha tea or a lemon juice with salt and green pepper, and it is easy to see why even a skeptical carnivore can become a veggie enthusiast. Whether meeting friends, enjoying a solo coffee, or simply seeking a calm brunch, Guru Chay combines style and flavor, making vegetarian dining trendy and enjoyable.

7.
Tiệm Nướng Xóm Lèo

This barbecue restaurant offers one of the most breathtaking sunset views in the city. Of course, no two sunsets are ever the same, and during the colder seasons, the colors tend to be even more vibrant and dramatic. It is a good idea to check the sunset time in advance and arrive about an hour earlier so you can fully enjoy the changing sky as the evening sets in. Just keep in mind that while the colder season enhances the colors, it also means you will be dining in the chillier air so bringing a warm jacket is definitely recommended.
As night falls, the view becomes just as captivating. The surrounding greenhouses gradually light up, creating a glowing landscape that feels almost magical. It adds a unique charm to the whole experience and makes dining here feel a bit more special than your average barbecue spot.
The menu for two people is quite generous and easily enough for three people to share. When eating, you can wrap a piece of grilled meat in a leaf of salad and enjoy it as is, or dip it into the sauce for extra flavor. If you are not sure how to go about it, the staff are friendly and more than happy to show you. And do not hesitate to try the chicken feet! They are surprisingly delicious, well-seasoned, and definitely a must-try if you are feeling adventurous. If you wish to book a table, a deposit of 200,000 VND is required.

Drinkery

Sometimes you just want to go out, but not for anything fancy, just a place that feels easy to be in, with delicious food and a relaxed soundtrack in the background. The first time I visited Da Lat, I was wandering the streets with a few friends, with no plan or destination in mind. We turned a corner, and there it was: a cozy little restaurant that caught our attention. It felt so inviting that we stayed longer than expected, and by the next night, we found ourselves back again, drawn in by the same charm.
The staff were genuinely lovely, greeting us like old friends and making the experience even more memorable. Their beer selection is fantastic, especially if you enjoy Belgian brews like I do. Between the flavors on the plate, the live music, and the easygoing atmosphere, this spot quickly became one of my favorite memories in Da Lat.
Some dishes and drinks at Drinkery are a little pricey, but sitting there with a Belgian beer in hand, savoring every bite and letting the music carry the evening, it never felt like a cost—it felt like a moment. Moments like these are why this place quickly became a part of my Da Lat story.

Túi Mơ To Garden

Túi Mơ To Garden is the kind of place that draws both locals and travelers, and it is easy to see why. There is something special about gathering around a barbecue with friends or family while breathing in the crisp mountain air and soaking up the scenery. Outdoor seating is arranged to make the most of the scenery, letting you dine with the hills as your backdrop. As evening falls, the valley lights below twinkle like tiny stars, creating a magical setting for a leisurely meal.
If the weather is cooler or you prefer a cozier atmosphere, the indoor space is just as appealing. Rustic wooden tables, warm lighting, and a few heaters make it an inviting spot for chilly nights, while the décor keeps the space charming and relaxed. Whether you are inside or out, the atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a long, unhurried dinner with good company.
The menu is a playground for grill lovers, with everything from smoky forest meats to irresistible seafood. And to round out the meal, don’t miss their Apricot Wine, a smooth, lightly sweet specialty from Sapa that pairs perfectly with anything off the grill.

Kiyo

I have said before that Italian and French cuisines are in my top five, but Japanese food is the one I am truly obsessed with. No matter where I am, breathing in the cool mist of Da Lat or exploring some new corner of the city, there is always this familiar little tug in my stomach. It is like the thought of miso broth, fresh sashimi, or a perfectly grilled skewer just taps me on the shoulder. And sooner or later, I give in. I always do.
There is a little Japanese restaurant in Da Lat that has become my go-to sanctuary, and it is called Kiyo. It does not have an open kitchen, but the bar seats are always the first thing I gravitate toward. One evening, I slipped into my usual spot at the counter. The glow of the warm lights, the soft hum of conversation behind me, and the gentle clatter of plates created an atmosphere that felt like a pocket of calm carved out from the noise of daily life. Sitting there, I could almost feel the day’s weight melt away.
What I love most is how, in that bar seat, eating alone never feels lonely. Instead, it feels intentional, almost ritualistic. There is a quiet intimacy in the way the staff moves, in the unspoken courtesy that fills the room, in the simple act of enjoying a meal without rush or distraction. That little bar in that little restaurant has become my escape. And maybe that is why Japanese cuisine remains my top choice, not just for its flavors, but for the moments of peace it gives me right here in my own city.
